We are the Christ Evangelical Ministry, a non-denominational Christian organisation. Our main aim is to spread the good news of the gospel through showing the love of Christ by providing assistance to those in need both spiritually and socially. The spiritual aspect is to encourage all persons, regardless of race, sex, age, faith, to read the Holy Bible and to provide them with Bibles. The social aspect is to relieve poverty, sickness, hunger and distress.
We aim to eradicate illiteracy spiritually and socially; as a result, we have continued to provide free education, as well as distribute bibles to individuals and churches; clothes to poor communities; and medication and clothes to the amputees of the war in Sierra Leone, West Africa. |

We established in September 1997, a primary school in Kathantha, providing free education to children living in seven villages within a 11 mile radius. Due to the attack by rebels on the village during which the school and houses as well as lives were lost, we moved to Wellington, Freetown and established a nursery and primary school in Freetown. In November 2001, we were able re-instate the primary school in Kathantha together with that in Wellington, Freetown.
In February 2003, the Cookham Rise Methodist Church donated L1,500.00 to us to enable us dig a well for Kathantha where the school is situated. Other contributors are the New Way Pentecostal Fellowship, London and King’s Covenant Fellowship, Glenrothes, Scotland.
We now need to build toilets for the children, for which we are now organising a fund-raising drive. To promote reconciliation after the war, we plan to organise inter-village football tournaments. We have sent out letters for donations of sports equipment.
Also, in Sierra Leone, we are involved in the various needs of the poor and needy by associating with them. We have encouraged, organised and mobilised community members to acquire vocational skills thereby leading to self-reliance. |

In the UK our work has concentrated on the homeless. we have been collecting, sorting and distributing clothes to the homeless. We have also been distributing hot food and drinks to them where they congregate and encourage them to seek accommodation. We encourage them to be involved in the organisation’s activities, such as directing us to other homeless people in the borough as well as distribution of clothes and food. We also liaise with services providing accommodation in Hackney
By helping the homeless through provision of food and information our project not only promotes their health and well-being, it also helps to integrate them into mainstream services. As they feel part and parcel of the community, and as people learn of homeless issues, it leads to the creation of stronger and more united communities.
From the feedback we have received from housing offices, the volunteers involved, as well as the homeless themselves, there is a need for outreach programmes to the homeless.
As the African Caribbean Re-Union seeks to get its own premises, the Christ Evangelical Ministry will be able to expand its services to more homeless people. |
